One of the fastest-growing fields for employment is in Computer Information. So what we do at Amarillo College is we have Computer Information Systems split into a couple of categories.
One is just development, programming, learning how to code. One is on networks and figuring out how computers work-- all the hardware. And then the third piece is cybersecurity. That's pretty new. And it's pretty big. A lot of opportunities on all of those things.
We have a Code Academy, where you can come in and learn full-stack development. We built a partnership with Apple on Swift coding, so you can build iOS apps. So we're constantly pushing ahead to meet the market and give the students who are coming here the best value we can.
CIS has a club here in the college called, "Bash Script Crazy." And they do a lot of fun stuff, including gaming. We have a wonderful lab that is set for gaming. You'll have a lot of fun if you're part of CIS.
As opposed to a four-year college where you have to go through many years of theory, we get right to the point. We know technology is a fast-paced, fast-moving environment.
And we need to be there for the students where they are-- not where it was 10 years ago-- where it's going to be in two years, three years, five years. And so we have to get their hands on the newest and latest technology immediately so that they can be the most successful in their careers.
